Overview of Music History Assignment:

* Research and write a blog post giving an overview of music history.
* You should discuss which period you think you like the best and what you hope to learn about the music of various periods. Use terms regarding rhythm, melody, harmony, texture and form.
* Site specific examples of music, musicians, composers, styles, etc.
* Target post length is 400 words
* You are expected to include three appropriate embedded pictures.
* You are expected to link to at least three sites that you use as sources within the text of your post.
* Use good writing habits, just as you would in English Class. Be sure to credit all sources (and link to them). Plagiarism is not an option.

This assignment is due by the end of class Monday, October 25th .

How to add a picture to your post.


Step 1. Find a suitable picture on the web or from your computer (flash drive/hard drive/email.)

Step 2. Copy the url of the full sized picture.

Step 3. Click Add Image Icon and paste the url into the url field. Click add image.

How to create Links in your blog!

It is very easy to add links to your music appreciation blog. Here is an example:

Step 1. Type the text that you want to make into a link. ex. Bone Flute Article

Step 2. Open a new Tab with the page you want to link to, and copy the url from the address field.

Step 3. Return to your new blogpost and highlight the text that will become the link.

Step 4. Click the insert link icon (the one with the chain).

Step 5. Paste the url that you copied into the field that pops up.

You are done.

Early 20th Century Music Research Assignment

Directions

Your job in this assignment is to research the changes in music that occurred during the early part of the 20th Century.

In particular, focus on the experimentation that took place in the areas of "serious" music, technological advances, listener's preferences, and how all of this impacted the increasing rise of "popular" music including ragtime, blues, jazz, etc. When you have completed your research, publish a blog post which includes pictures, links, musical examples, etc. You must link to any online sources and give credit to those sources.

Viennese Classical Period Blog Assignment

Your job in this assignment is to research a musical topic from the Classical Era. Choose one of the following topics or come up with your own and have Mr. Allder approve it.

Possible topics include: Biography of a composer (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Paganini), development of Classical instruments (piano), development of musical styles (sonata, symphony, opera, etc.). When you have completed your research, publish a blog post which includes pictures, links, musical examples, etc. You must link to any online sources and give credit to those sources.
